My Philips Avent sterilizer immediately starts heating when I plug it in
You have pressed the power-on button (unintentionally) before you plugged in the appliance.
When you press the power-on button before you put the plug in the wall socket, the sterilizer starts operating immediately when you plug it in.
Warning: The appliance becomes extremely hot during sterilization and may cause burns if you touch it.
Always check if the sterilizing light is on, this is an indication that the appliance is already operating.

The sterilizing process may take longer than usual because you poured too much water into the sterilizer.
To ensure accurate sterilization you should follow the following instructions:

Measure and pour exactly 100ml/3.5 oz. of pre, fresh water directly into the water reservoir
Make sure all parts that need to be sterilized are completely disassembled and place them in the basket with their openings pointing down to prevent them from filling up with water
When you fill the small basket:
Put the nipples on the bottom of the basket
Place the screw rings loosely on top of the nipples
Clip the bottle dome caps into the holders
The sterilizing light shows orange to indicate that it has started operating.
When you unpack the sterilizer, you may notice a strange smell. This smell is not harmful. Due to the newness of the materials the appliance will produce a slight smell when you take it out of the box.
This smell will soon disappear after you have unpacked your sterilizer. We also recommend that you complete one sterilizing process with empty baskets to remove any remaining dirt and smell.
