How to clean a Philips Avent Combined Steamer and Blender and resolve common issues
Wash all parts that come into contact with food in hot water with washing-up liquid. All parts except the motor unit can also be cleaned in a dishwasher. Never immerse the motor unit in water. If necessary, clean it with a damp cloth.
For best results, rinse the parts under the tap before placing them in the dishwasher.
Cleaning the water tank
If food has accidentally entered the water tank, it may become stuck to the heating element and cannot be removed by simply rinsing the tank. Follow these steps to clean the water tank:
Make sure the appliance is switched off and unplugged.
Add one sachet of citric acid (10 g) to 200 ml of warm water. Alternatively, mix 150 ml of water with 50 ml of white vinegar (8%).
Fill the water tank with the descaling solution using the measuring cup. Do not fill the water tank directly from the tap.
Close the water tank lid.
Place the empty jar in the steaming position.
Plug in the appliance and turn the control knob to the steaming position. The steaming light turns orange to show that the appliance is steaming.
After 5–6 minutes of steaming, switch off and unplug the appliance. About 150 ml of water will remain in the water tank.
Empty the used solution from the water tank.
Rinse the tank thoroughly several times with fresh water.
Fill the tank with 200 ml of water. Before using the appliance again, run two complete steaming cycles with no food in the jar, allowing the appliance to switch off automatically each time. Wait 10 minutes between steaming cycles.
Check that the water tank is completely empty and leave the lid open to help prevent bacterial growth.
To help prevent food residue or mould from building up:
Separate and clean all parts immediately after use.
Make sure all parts are completely dry before reassembling the appliance.
Food residue or mould has built up on parts of the appliance
Soak the affected parts in warm, soapy water for around 30 minutes. Then remove the residue using a brush.
If your Philips Avent Combined Steamer and Blender does not steam, or does not steam properly, try the following:
There may be too much limescale in the water tank. Descale the appliance every 2–4 weeks to help prevent build-up.
After a steaming cycle, the appliance needs around 10 minutes to cool down before you can start another one. Wait 10 minutes, then try again.
Make sure the jar is correctly positioned for steaming.
Still not working?
If the steam function is still not working it could be that the safety switch is defect. Please contact us.
This may be because:
The blade unit is blocked because there is too much food in the jar. Switch off the appliance and process a smaller quantity. Do not blend for more than 30 seconds at a time.
The jar is in the steaming position. Turn the jar upside down, then start blending.
If the jar is leaking, this may be because:
The lid is not correctly assembled on the jar. Assemble the lid correctly.
There is too much food in the jar. Switch off the appliance and process a smaller quantity.
The sieve may not be attached to the jar lid. Make sure the sieve is properly attached to the lid.
Steam may escape from the water tank because:
The filling-opening lid is not properly closed. Close it until you hear a clear click.
The steam outlet is blocked by food or limescale. Clean the steam outlet with a pointed object, taking care not to damage the seal.
This is normal. You need to hold the control knob in the blending position while blending. This is a safety feature that lets you control the blending process.
An unpleasant smell is normal during the first few uses. If the appliance continues to smell after you have used it a few times, check that you are using the correct processing quantity and time. Process small quantities and do not blend for more than 30 seconds at a time.
